Life is short. Order the specialty cocktail.

Last night I met my dear gal pal BEH for drinks at Whiskey Park. I pulled out one of my summer favorites, a Betsey Johnson novelty dress I bought two years ago. The weather wasn't quite comparable but I couldn't bare to contain my tanned legs in jeans. Part of my new outlook on life: Why not? As Rose recently said on Golden Girls 'Today is the first day of the rest of your life!' (And then Sophia said, 'Terrific. If I'm lucky I'll live to be 7.')

A few small philosophies for today:

Never thought the words would escape my lips, but you can have chardonnay any day. Have the seasonal drink that you can't order anywhere else. Live a little.

Maybe everything in life changes - friendships, places, situations - except for people. Maybe the best we can do is accept, adapt, and move on.

Find the perfect lipstick/balm/gloss. Search high and low. Find it and commit yourself to it. Don't ever waste another dollar on a different color or brand. I found mine last week, purchased it yesterday, and today I'm going to throw everything else away.

And finally, IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY, DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL! Good lord! What's with all the negative energy going on in our blog world recently? I know there are people out there who can't stand me and for the life of me I do not understand why they spend their precious time perusing my blog and writing rude comments. Anyone? Bueller?

Anyway, this week's Preppy Pick is Bar and Books. I went to the Beekman location with Miss AEG a few weeks ago. They make one mean Pimm's Cup.

Have a preppy and morally correct Thursday!

  3. Yeah, I don't know what is up with all the mean people on blogs lately. I have never had mean comments before and THIS week I have had TWO! What? I don't get it. Oh well, we put ourselves out there, you know? Just don't let them bug you! :)

  4. I agree, total BOO to the haters.

And I'm dying to know, since I'm such a makeup junkie...what's your lipstick/gloss find?

  5. I think that while people might be interested in your life and the preppy style, it CAN seem self-centered (especially in this economy) to only discuss material items and chronicle your nights out in NYC and travels. I mean, Melissa C. Morris leads a privileged preppy life and it's fun to read about where she goes and what she likes to buy, but every other post also covers her extensive charity work. Do YOU do any charity work? Or does that get in the way of jetting off to London? Just sayin'.

  6. I am a fan of her blog and glad to hear that you are too. Feel free to read hers and stay away from mine if you feel I'm self-centered - that was the point of my post in the first place.

  7. Darling GP,

For some it is sufficient to do good deeds out of the public eye, to satisfy in your own heart that you are a good person and doing the right thing. Others need a parade and a gong and a trumpet to tell the world what they have done so that everyone can tell them they are suck a kind benevolent person.

Who are you to say if TAG is not a silent do-gooder? Just because she does not list her acts of kindness out every other day on her blog does not mean she isn’t doing them. Keeping parts of her life from you does not make her a bad person. Judging her and her life when you don’t know her however does make you a bad person.

  8. love the post!
I didn't realize all the negative comments were around...aren't these blogs just for fun?

  9. GP

I have known TAG since we were 5 years old and there are few kinder more caring people in this world.

If you don't like what she has to say no one is forcing you to read her blog.

    Get a life.

  10. The "morally correct Thursday" made me smile. I cannot for the life of me understand why people chose to be rude!

About the seasonal drink, they are usually so good! I love to do that.

  11. I love the accept, adapt, and move on!!!!

    And for the haters...

I am just guessing that GP does not stand for "Good Person" or else you would have found a better use of your time then trying to bring down bloggy fun.

  12. I love your blog and am sorry some people are so rude. Your post and tweet about life changes is so true and great words to live by.

  13. I've been reading your blog for a while, don't think I have ever posted before, though. We may live different lifestyles, but I enjoy your blog and seeing all your cute outfits and your positive outlook! :) Just wanted to show some support and say screw the haters! I've had to deal with it as well. They are antagonistic and pathetic, with nothing better to do than try to make others feel crappy. It's your blog and your content-- you're not hurting anyone, so what's their problem?

  14. "...accept, adapt, and move on."

    I loved this- thanks!

As far as the haters- boo to them! Don't read then.

I too, want to know what the lipstick/gloss find was.

  16. I'm going to try this again minus the misspelling:
I once read that negativity is a reflection of the one who expresses it as opposed to the one who is being criticized. Live happy!

  17. Hey, when you're a blogger, you're opening yourself up to all kinds of comments, and not all of them are going to kiss your @$$. Either develop a thicker skin or don't whine when people say things that hurt your widdle feelings. Grow up.

live your life fabulously, you only have one!

You make me want to enjoy life so much more. Kudos TAG!

  21. "if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all"
thank you for writing that! i think that people (myself included) need to remind themselves of that daily.

  22. I love your blog and enjoy reading it daily. Now, please tell us all about that fabulous new lipstick/gloss you discovered!

  23. You know what? My apologies. I would never be that rude to someone in real life, so I don't know why I felt I could do it here. I came off as a total b!@#$, which I'm really not, and you came across as more gracious than I gave you credit for. I hope I can learn to be that gracious. Again, my apologies.
