I wandered into J. Crew today to try on the Winnie Coat.

Fits a bit awkwardly, no? I'm wearing a size 4 in this photo, which is what I normally take at J. Crew. A sales associate advised me to take it off, put a sweater on, and put the coat back on, but I could already tell that there was ample room for something underneath. The bottom is a bit hexagonal, which was unexpected. Yellow is my favorite color and this is a beautiful piece, I'm just not sure.
Fall fashion is always a favorite of mine, but this season I've decided I'm going to make my own trends happen, included but not limited to:
1. Ballet chic. I love all styles associated with ballet. I love buns and ribbons and wrap sweaters and ballet slippers. I recently purchased a pair of light pink tights and am looking forward to pairing it with a wrap and bow flats. Will it work? We will see.
2. Leather pants. That's right. I want a new pair and I want to make them work with a white ruffled top and black stilettos. I have a very distinct image in my mind from my adolescence. Me, in black leather pants and a low cut sweater, getting into the backseat of my boyfriend's mom's Lexus. His eyes widened and his jaw dropped, but he was silent. I didn't realize it then, but I was really taking a risk. Love em or hate em, you'll always surprise people when you wear leather pants. Why oh why didn't I keep them? They were a size 2. Let's all take a moment and mourn in silence for the loss of my hot high school bod. Sigh.
I went in J.Crew yesterday and my boss looked at that jacket and said "that looks like you!" Love the coat.
ReplyDeleteLeather pants can be hot. i do agree...although, whenever I think of them I think of that episode of Friends when Ross starts sweating and gets baby powder everywhere trying to get them back on! Cracked me up!
I am not really digging the Winnie Coat - I wanted to like it up the fit looks off - and there is something oversized about the details - it almost looks cartoon-ish, if that makes sense. I say it's a pass.
ReplyDeleteAs for the leather pants, I'm totally intrigued! I would love to be able to pull that look off - but I'd be too big of a wuss! I'm sure you could - please post if and when you get them! :)
First Teddi, totally love these type of posts from you :)
ReplyDeleteSecond, I was loving the coat, but NEVER tried it on. I am thinking a trip to J.Crew is in order.
Great fashion picks and fantabulous coat. I am ready for fall. So ready I bought a pumpkin pie yesterday. Ate half of it last night. Take care and enjoy shopping for fall.

ummmmm riding boots and chunky necked sweaters, xxxooo
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem with this coat! It just wasn't right when I put it on! I was really disappointed because it looked so great in the catalog!
ReplyDeleteI love ballet chic! That is a great trend to start. The leather pants sound hot! Keep us updated if you find the perfect pair.
ReplyDeleteNot loving the Winnie Coat... Michael Kors came out with a great yellow coat last season that is much more fitting/feminine.
ReplyDeleteI can picture you sporting light pink tights and bowed balled flats :)
I am so ready for fall, too. I've been working on a post about it the last couple days but have been soon busy that I haven't finished it yet!
ReplyDeleteYou know I LOVE J.Crew. But I am not loving the Winnie coat. Pretty color, but the fit just doesn't seem right?
I heart ballet flats and tights. Leather pants, I am not so sure about...but then again I am not a risk taker in the least! I am sure you can rock them like nobody's business!
I'm ready for fall, too! It's my favorite season. (I'm just not a hot weather gal!) Bring on the pumpkin lattes from Starbucks!
ReplyDeleteI love your statement about making your own trends happen. It will be fun to see what you put together this season (hint, hint...take pics!). Fall clothing is my favorite...oh, the warm, rich colors!
I love when I can rock my leather pants and still look chic!
ReplyDeletei am all about ballet chic. hell, i just bought a leotard and want to get another one. i wish i had the thighs for leather pants. rock it, girl!
ReplyDeleteAgreed on both points. Well done.
ReplyDeleteAs you know, I love everything to do with ballet. And leather pants? Absolutely. Creating your own trends is a surefire way to be happy!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea about ballet chic and might just be your first trend follower!
