Nookie nookie

Many of you have asked me to talk (write) about my Nook. Today seems appropriate to blog about it, as "iPad" is the current buzzword.

Let me immediately clarify that I decided I wanted an e-Reader when the Nook debuted. This was also when the Kindle had already become extremely popular and talk of an Apple e-Reader surfaced. I chose the Nook for two very important reasons:

1. I am a fiercely loyal Barnes & Noble customer. I am a member and am in there at least once a week. I know the layout of the store and can easily navigate my way around and find exactly what I'm looking for. I feel comfortable there, and comfort is very important to me. I'm not a fan of Amazon, and while I have been an Apple customer for 15+ years (I got my very first Mac for my 10th birthday) I just don't see the appeal of buying an e-Reader from a purveyor that's not even in the book business. Getting the Nook made the most sense for me.

2. The Kate Spade cover. Come on. This is me we're talking about, after all.

Thus far, I have read four books on my Nook and am very pleased with it. It's lightweight, super user-friendly, and, despite the fact that it looks like I'm clawing it in that photo, is easy and comfortable to hold, thanks to good ole Kate. (And in case you're wondering, the front of the cover says, "She kept her nose in a book" and the back says, "and her head in the clouds".)

It's not perfect and I've had a few small issues with it, but for the most part, I'm absolutely in love. But no matter what e-Reader you decide on - I will say this. I love having a little mystery to me as there's no cover being exposed. Because if anyone found out what I'm reading right now, I would be absolutely humiliated.

ha ha! I have a Kindle and love it, one of the benefits being that I can read certain kinds of books and not have to put them on my bookshelves for people to see. : )

I'm trying to decide between the Kindle and the Nook. Teddi, I am a fan of B&N and agree with you about many of your reasons for going with the Nook, but has anyone seen an actual comparison of the Nook vs. the Kindle? Are there big differences in the device, the number and price of books available for each, etc? I'm overwhelmed trying to figure out which to buy before we leave for FL next week!!

I haven't seen a concrete comparison - therefore I didn't really feel it was fair to compare to Nook to any other e-Reader, so I just decided to explain why I chose it. I honestly don't think you can go wrong. I think the differences in memory, price, and book cost are probably minimal at best. Good luck deciding, but I have a feeling that you'll be pleased with whatever you end up with.

The cover sounds adorable! Im looking forward to getting the ipad and I'm hoping Kate Spade will make a few case for it just like her iphone covers :)

I worry that the Nook will give me a headache, particularly since I spend all day staring at a computer screen. Have you had problems with that?

Great question. I suffer from awful headaches/what I believe to be minor migraines. I now wear glasses for computer use and reading. I totally feel you because as I writer, I spend much of my time in front of the computer too. I must say that the Nook has never bothered me in that sense. It is just like reading a book. There is no glare or discomfort. I hope this helps!

I am also a loyal B&N customer and memeber. However, I received a Kindle DX for hanukkah, and I love it. The only thing I find to be bad is that there are no page numbers and it is not backlit. It's okay though, I have a book lamp :) Anyway, happy reading! I just purchased the book Outliers, it's pretty good you should check it out.

I just got a Nook last night for a belated Hanukkah present and I love it! I almost got the pink Kate Spade cover but instead bought the lilly pulitzer one.
