I happen to think Nicholas Sparks is a great storyteller. I found Dear John eye-opening. The movie was very different but I don't think I would have appreciated it half as much without having read the book first.
Honestly, the movie trailer is what prompted me to read The Last Song, and I don't even like Miley Cyrus. Now that I've read the book, I cry every time I see the trailer. I'm really looking forward to the movie.
A dear friend gave me LA Candy for my birthday. While I've always thought highly of Lauren Conrad (she is a class act and the best thing to ever come out of MTV, in my humble opinion) I originally had no intent of reading her book. Once I picked this up, I had trouble putting this down. It's fun and indulgent, and I already pre-purchased Sweet Little Lies on my Nook. I can't wait until March 2, when I'm able to download and read it!
Food Rules: An Eater's Manual is short and sweet (I read it in about an hour or so) but it will forever change the way you look at food. The book contains 64 rules - some obvious, some ah-ha! and some that'll definitely have you rethinking your grocery lists. Everyone should read this.
Next up on my list: Roses by Leila Meacham, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert (embarrassing but true - I haven't read it yet) and Shoo Jimmy Choo: The Modern Girl's Guide to Spending Less and Saving More by Catey Hill.
I've had a voracious reading appetite lately- thanks for the suggestions. eat pray love is def on my to-do list!
ReplyDeleteThe Help will change your liiiiiife I loved it. Still powering through Roses and can't get enough -- its Gone With The Wind meets the Lifetime movie you always wish they'd make

ReplyDeleteNo thank you. Please take your uncalled-for opinions elsewhere.
Eat Pray Love should be required reading for any woman, you'll love it! I'll be tackling her new one, Committed, next.
ReplyDeleteyou have a public blog....you have your opinions and I have mine. I don't think the books you listed are "good" simple as that. My comment was not uncalled for it is just a simple comment, a matter of opinion. Blogs are for sharing opinions and points of views.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that they are great books that I enjoyed reading. There is no need for negativity or to insult my choices.
ReplyDeleteI just ordered the Food Rules and Shoo, Jimmy Choo! Also, have you read "The Looking Glass Wars" by Frank Beddor? It was recommended to me-I am ordering it also! You should try Pride and Prejudice and Zombies also. It's fantastic!
ReplyDeleteit is just an opinion not an insult...seriously relax and learn how to take criticism ...welcome to the real world.
ReplyDeleteI was taught that if I didn't have anything nice to say, I shouldn't say anything at all. Your comment came off as rude and unnecessary to me. Clearly we should agree to disagree & move on.
ReplyDelete1) Did I tell you my dad and Nicholas Sparks are "friends"? :) My dad was principal of my old HS when NS donated a $750,000 track there. Oh, and he wrote a check.
ReplyDelete2) I've just started The Help. I'm enjoying it so far!
3) Happy Wednesday! You're purely fabulous just so you know :)
Mean people suck! I love your blog and your reading suggestions!
ReplyDeleteI love Nicholas Sparks, and rarely admit it ;) haven't read Dear John yet...in the middle of The Duchess :)
ReplyDeleteFood Rules is an amazing book. If you have the chance, read "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by him too because it's such an eye opener. I met Michael Pollan when he was at Martha Stewart Show back in October, and my cousin works for his publisher. He is a fantastic author and person.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have to agree with Miss Mal. I couldn't put The Help down!! Such a fantastic book...a great read (a long read, but a great one!).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion!
ReplyDeleteThe Help was wonderful. If you like it you should read The Divine Secrets of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood (assuming you haven't already). And oldie but a goodie!! I'd also suggest trying a Pat Conroy novel if you like "Southern" literature- a little heavier, but he is a wonderful story teller.
ReplyDelete"Teeny bopper" books are always my favorite kind...
ReplyDeletexoxo
I just read Dear John too - my first Nicholas Sparks (after putting down The Notebook halfway through) and really enjoyed it. Also read LA Candy at the urging of a friend and really liked it - looking forward to borrowing Sweet Little Lies once she finishes it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Michael Pollan's books. He gives a really awesome perspective on the way Americans eat today. If you are looking for similar books give 'Mindless Eating' a try. I can't remember the author though, sorry!
ReplyDeleteI want to see Dear John, and I am glad to hear your review since you read the book. Cannot wait for Last Song period! I loved the book! I also liked LA Candy, and have her new one on my shelf waiting for me. I hope you like The Help! I love it to pieces for several reasons!
ReplyDeleteTeeny bopper books?? Don't think so commenter! We aren't reading Sweet Valley High!:)
I love N.Sparks but was so disappointed with the ending of Dear John and I hated that the movie was soooooo different!
ReplyDeleteI am reading the LA Candy sequel right now!
ReplyDeletei love food rules! so simple and yet so true!
