Happy when skies are gray

When I am feeling especially gloomy (like today) I try to do a few things that'll brighten me up and calm me down.

Take a bubble bath. I like Laura Mercier's version with the honeycomb.
Tidy up. It's easier for me to wake up and getting going in the morning when I have a clean home.
Read Real Simple. My April issue arrived in the mail today. Kismet.
Play Sudoku. While I'm sure it's strange to many, I find these puzzles soothing.
Give myself a manicure. I actually enjoy this far more than making a trip to the nail salon. It relaxes me.
Eat a small portion of something sweet. If I have too many treats I begin to feel sick, which is completely counterintuitive. But a little bit is always lovely.
Send notecards to friends or my Nana. Dropping hand-written correspondence in the mail is one of my greatest pleasures.
Watch something on TV I've already seen. It's nice to watch an episode of The Wonder Years because I've already seen them all a hundred times and I like knowing just what to expect.
Make plans and fill up my calendar. So I have something to look forward to, and I love to stay busy.
Blog. Goes without saying!

  2. Love this list! I'm trying to procrastinate less (which is pretty much like Charlie Sheen saying he's going to party "a little less"), so the tidy home is a big one for me. I'm so lazy that I used to just let clothes pile up on my bed until I could barely fit in it anymore (is this bad to admit on the internet? Probably), but now I'm trying to spend 10 min or so a day straightening up. Today was the first day. So far, so good.

  3. Have you tried the new salted caramel bites from Starbucks? They are the perfect sweet to brighten up a day. And only 120 calories. (I was shocked!) Hope your day got better.
