Speedy gets stationery

My friend Hopsy recently hosted a Preppy Cards giveaway, but I had actually already ordered my own set. When I was moving from my old apartment into this one, I got rid of all my piecemail stationery and quickly realized I was left with practically nothing. I decided to consolidate and order one set of notecards to use for everything - correspondence, thank yous, et cetera. My first and only stop was Preppy Cards. I knew I wanted to use my initials rather than my name, but I went into the picking process unsure of design. After all, there are so many good ones. The Jack Roger, the seahorse, the Kappa key, to name a few of my favorites. But at the end of the day, I had to choose Speedy.

A little backstory here... Speedy is like my pet. She belonged to my mother first - my parents actually drove up to Palm Beach in the late 70s to get her. You couldn't buy Louis Vuitton in Miami back then. As you can see, Speedy is old and decrepit these days... she probably belongs in a museum somewhere but resides in my closet instead. My mother all but begged to buy me a new one, to which I politely declined. No way was I replacing that bag. In the end, I settled on a Palermo GM, which I use almost every single day. Of course, I still take Speedy out for a spin now and then. That bag means so much to me. It's one of the first things my mom and dad ever bought together. I will never, ever get rid of it. I'll probably be buried with it. Kidding. Maybe.

I decided to do my initials in turquoise as an ode to my new humble abode. Here's the end result...

Isn't it perfect? If you're attached to a bag as well... perhaps your Hermes Birkin, or your Longchamp tote, or your Nantucket basket... you too can can have these iconic images etched into your stationery. Or you choose from the 300 plus other designs... because truly, there isn't a bad one in the bunch.

P.S. Use code HOPSY in the special instructions box now through July 15 to receive 15% off your order.

Congratulations!

Congratulations are in order...

...to my baby sister, who graduated high school AND went to her senior prom last Friday!

...and to my parents, who moved to NYC today! We are now all FULL-TIME residents of the city so nice they named it twice!

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times

Isn't it funny how in the worst of your days, you see the best of your friends?

I didn't grow up in one city. I don't really have the luxury of childhood friends. I keep in close touch with two people - the first friend I ever made in preschool, and my best friend from elementary school. Actually, she just got engaged and I'm a bridesmaid in her wedding. I am beyond thankful for both of these relationships.

I rely heavily on the people I've met and the friendships I've made within the past five to eight years because I don't have those hometown connections. And I have really lucked out. I have the most incredible girls in my life, and I can literally count on all of my finger and toes the female friendships I consider to be quality and real and priceless. There are no words to describe how much these women mean to me.

The past few months have been challenging, and I believe it's in those tough moments that you see the light. You learn who the true people in your life are. Almost every single person who I considered to be a friend stepped up to the plate and was really, truly there for me. It was the bright spot in my otherwise gloomy days. It was also a good lesson to learn.

I want to take this moment to thank them. They know who they are, but they'll never know how much I love them.

Turquoise Touches

I'm all moved in but still decorating and not quite ready to share photos yet. I think I've mentioned before that turquoise is my favorite stone and one of my favorite colors, so naturally it was a shade I wanted a lot of in my new apartment as I already own quite a bit of blue. I'm still looking for a few more special pieces in my beloved hue. Here are some I'm thinking of adding to the mix.

Thinking I could use this farmer's market basket on my kitchenette counter or on my dining table. I'm wondering if it's big enough to hold a few pears.

Would love to whip up summery drinks in this hobnail pitcher. I really like the combination of unique design and striking color... it's a lot, but not too much.

I got rid of all my vases before I moved. The color on this corinth vase is a bit light but I absolutely love the silhouette. I think it would pair perfectly with white roses (my favorite flower).

I've seen the lights go out on Broadway

You probably wouldn't look at me and think I'm a girl who cries over basketball. As game 6 came to a close, I sat in bed and sobbed. Sometimes I'll surprise you like that.

The Miami Heat broke my heart into a thousand pieces last night. They played like I felt: careless, defeated, and like they'd already lost. They gave up. We all just gave up.

Life is a series of peaks and valleys. I always say that when you're down, there's no where to go but up. Sometimes, however, you don't realize quite how far you've fallen.

So here's to the upward battle. We've been champions before and will surely rise again.

JGIWC's Not Bummer Summer

Last summer was pretty bad. Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty bad. Summer is my absolute favorite season (for the first 13 years of my life, it was the only one I knew) and I'm determined to make this one a good one, come hell, high water or even (God forbid) a Heat loss.

I'm off to a good start...

Took a trip to Florida to visit The Nana...

Since there are no men in my life, I depend on my gal pals for dinner dates, such as this beauty above...

Celebrated the beginning of summer at the End of Year party with some of my favorite Junior Leaguers...

More to come. Off to cheer on my boys. LET'S GO HEAT!

Wedding Wednesday - CONGRATS AEG!

This Wedding Wednesday post is dedicated to my best friend, AEG. She got engaged to the man of her dreams last week and I couldn't be happier for her!

We have been through absolutely everything together and I just can't believe that we're all grown up and SHE'S GETTING MARRIED! She and her fiance give me hope that true love exists and maybe my prince charming is somewhere out there!

There is no better cyber toast than to take a walk down photo memory lane...

Congratulations and cheers to my favorite girl! I will gladly settle for second love of your life. ;) Watching your fairy tale unfold has been so inspiring and such a pleasure. You deserve it and I'm just so thrilled that I get to be a part of it. All my love!!!
