ATX

Just got back from a delicious trip to Austin, Texas. I lived in Dallas for five years and miss it every single day. This weekend I discovered that these two cities actually couldn't be more different.

I was so happy to meet a girlfriend in ATX who is as enthusiastic about food as I am. She steered us towards most of our culinary decisions and didn't disappoint. I can't believe my skinny jeans still fit. I need to run not walk to the nearest SoulCycle. Woof.

Dinner at Uchi! Paul Qui, the winner of Top Chef Texas, is executive chef of this modern Japanese hot spot. I'm so happy we snagged a reservation - the food was fantastic and the atmosphere was loud and fun.

Brunch at Haddingtons was delightful - donuts in espresso glaze and a apple + Gouda omelet. Right on 6th Street.

This is actually wall graffiti at Jo's Coffee on S. Congress Street. I loved it. Think it's kinda famous around those parts.

About to enjoy a Sweetberry cupcake from the Hey Cupcake! stream liner. This was amazing.

Clearly.

We had to swing by the Kappa house at UT and snap a few pics. Damn us creepy alumnae.

On our way to dinner at Congress. It was recognized as one of Bon Appetit's 10 Best New Restaurants in
America. This was without a doubt one of the most phenomenal restaurant experiences I have ever had.

Such a fun, indulgent weekend with one of my very favorite girls. Thank you Sarbear for joining me. I already can't wait to return! Thinking I'll take little miss Perri there for a sister weekend when she's of age.

  2. reader from dallas - i went to austin for the first time last year, and it was way fun and completely different from dallas. it almost doesn't feel like you're in texas when you're there. looks like you had a wonderful time and went to all the right places :) actually, paul qui was the winner of top chef texas, not tyson. paul works at uchiko, and tyson was on an ep of TCTX as the person who had most influenced paul as a chef. you just missed paul qui day in austin on 4/6 (http://austin.eater.com/archives/2012/04/05/april-6th-is-officially-paul-qui-day-in-austin.php)
