I know y'all didn't think I was done talkin' about Texas! Wanted to share a few of my favorites from the trip.
The yellowtail at Uchi was phenomenal. There are several variations, but my favorite was the Hama Chili with ponzu, Thai chili and orange supreme. It reminded me of a dish I love at Nobu.
Deciding whether to order the white lobster bisque or the chicken pappardelle at Congress was a struggle, and I ultimately went with the chicken. Our waitress surprised us and brought us each the bisque. It was without a doubt the winning dish of the night, and the service we received at Congress was among the best I've ever experienced.
Throughout our adventures, we kept driving by a place called Howdy Donut. I remembered living in Dallas that there were so many amazing hole-in-the-wall donut shops, and this one reminded me of those. We finally gave in on Sunday morning, and oh holy night were these amazing. We split the above and each got a cinnamon glazed twist.
I have loved Kendra Scott for years, so naturally I was really looking forward to visiting her shop on S. Congress. If you're at all familiar with her website, you know one of the best features is the Color Bar, which allows you to design your own KS pieces! There are a number of settings to choose from and you get to pick which color stones go where. I went into the shop knowing I wanted a pair of statement earrings in pink - I love big styles that really pop and don't get lost in my hair color. I quickly decided the best way to get these was to visit the Color Bar, which YES is an actual bar (no drinks) with a pretty, sweet Southern Belle standing behind it to boot. I asked her how long it would take to make the earrings as I don't live in Austin. She said about 10-15 minutes. Holy instant gratification!
I told her my requirements, she handed me an iPad to play around with colors and settings and I asked for her reassurance along the way. I ended up with these beauties just moments later!
If you're in Austin, don't forget to hit up the food truck round up on S. Congress. It's where I got the cupcake in the previous post!

That food looks amazing! And i love those earrrings! The color bar is such a smart concept!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so amazing, my local sushi place makes an incredible sushi pizza with a scallion crust and yellowtail, yummmm.

Love this post! I went to Austin last year for a bachelorette, and also got a pair of earrings made at the Kendra Scott Color Bar. Glad to hear Congress was great ... I'm going back to ATX at the end of June and am dying this try it!
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous that you went to Uchi - I'm semi obsessed with Paul Qui. I love the idea of the color bar, how fun!
