I've lost a lot of good television in the past year. I pine for Ari Gold every single day, I have no idea if Larry is ever coming back and now I've had to bid the city of Tree Hill adieu. Oh, it hurts to talk about it. I was very emotionally attached to that show and may or may not have fallen asleep that night while still crying. I digress.
To soften the blow, I've created a One Tree Hill playlist on Spotify. Some of these songs will forever remind me of a moment in time: "I Shall Believe" playing after Lucas' car accident; Haley and Nathan dancing to "More Than Anyone" at their wedding; "Heartbeats" in the background when the Ravens won the state championship; "Can't You See" at the fade out of the Season 6 finale. And some of the songs, like "Once When I Was Little" and "Non-Believer" don't recall a specific scene but more of a feeling. Oh my God, I miss it already.
The music was one of the cornerstones of the show and opened up so many doors for me and my iPod. I've discovered some of my favorite songs in Peyton's bedroom and on the Rivercourt. Am I missing any key tunes? Looking at this list, I can see that I definitely need to add "Unsatisfied" by Nine Black Alps.
Isn't it funny to think that this show started at the same exact time as The OC and outlived it by more than double the seasons? How did Julian put it... "a show with heart, that isn't afraid to be quiet". I love when the underdog prevails. Sometimes we can all use the reminder that slow and steady wins the race.
Mark Schwann said in an interview that though he will no longer write "fade in" every week, he believes that these characters will live on. I couldn't agree more.
Brooke Davis forever.

Love their music... I own that soundtrack with Peyton's drawing on the cover... xo
ReplyDeleteI LOVED that show when it first came out, but stopped watching after about the 3rd season....but I remember it was so good! Can't believe it was on so long!
ReplyDeleteHow about "The Good Life" by the Wreckers?! I love that song.
ReplyDeleteAlso, The First Cut is the Deepest (Sheryl Crow) and Brooklyn by Wakey!Wakey! (that guy who played the piano did it on the show - he dated the super skinny music producer)
And anything by Kate Voegele (Mia) - I love her whole CD but can't remember which songs are One Tree Hill ones and which aren't
Can you share that playlist?!
Shows with great music are the best shows. I stopped watching OTH after three or four seasons but have caught an episode here and there.
ReplyDeleteI am still waiting for Seth Cohen to return...
Oh. Em. Gee. I cried and cried and cried while watching the finale last week. I grew up with OTH, and felt such a connection with the characters. Soooo sad it's over :(
ReplyDeleteThe finale was so great and sad simultaneously! And Non-Believer is probably the best OTH song ever!

Oh man, so sad it's over...but at least it had a good run! I used to walk around my neighborhood listening to the soundtrack from the show (that and the Dawson Creek one...don't laugh!). Stars Go Blue is my favorite OTH song. Your playlist is great!
