As I mentioned the other day, I won't have much cash to blow in the stores come fall. Which got me thinking, what do I really need, anyway?
These days, shopping for me is looking, touching, trying on, and ultimately leaving the store empty-handed. It helps me get a better feel for what works best on my body, which is invaluable knowledge to possess when I am able to shop 'til I drop again.
From about September of last year until about April of this year, I lived in my J. Crew Pixie pants and my Diane von Furstenberg wrap dresses. Both have endless shoe options, which is always nice, and frankly, they make me feel good. They show off my body (not too much!) and they're comfortable. I always feel confident in these staples. Having a bad day? No clue what to wear? I throw either on. Instant pick-me-up.
However - I own four dresses and only two pairs of the pants. That's not even a full week's worth of outfits! I count on skinny jeans, chic tops, classic sweaters and playful dresses to fill in the holes. I did buy a pair of Michael Kors raspberry-colored denim skinnies that I'm really excited about, and I will absolutely be getting one more pair of Pixie pants. It would be completely unrealistic to say that I won't buy anything new for fall, but my purchases will certainly be limited. I need to make every bit count.
I'm fortunate enough to know some people in the fashion industry. In turn, I have access to very generous discounts at a number of designer shops, which I'll be extra thankful for in the coming months. I am in need of new black boots, and though it's not necessary I would love a new camel-colored coat. Same goes for a new fall bag (I want green). I'm hoping to get my hands on another DVF wrap - I've been incredibly lucky in scoring the ones I do own.
What are you after this fall?

I need animal prints. I'm hoping for a leopard ballet flat or driving moc style.
ReplyDeleteAnd by animal print flats I mean spinning shoes.
I know i mentioned it in another post, but on my wish list for the fall is brown ankle boots (cowboy style), black jeans and some lime gree/raspberry accessories. My mom bought me the most darling quilted sling tote in those colors (very Lilly Pulitzer!!) last week.
ReplyDeleteI could also definitely use a camel or brown coat as well, would look great with my brown boots, lol. I have dress knee high and casual Ugggs
...wrap dresses, as always really. I found a dress pattern that is very similar to the one used by Fürstenberg. Hence I started sewing my own wrap dresses. I live near a fabric outlet store that sells gorgeous, high quality jersey prints. This is very practical, fun and also budget-friendly. Are you into sewing at all? (Where I grew up, a mandatory seven years of Home Economics did the trick - hated it then, love it now).
ReplyDeleteThose pixie pants are adorable!
ReplyDeleteI love the Pixie pant! I'm after a good tweed skirt...it's been a difficult search thus far!
ReplyDeleteI think you possibly just found one of the things I really wanted, I am going to have to go into the store to try on those pants....thought they were pretty much the same as the minnies (which i cant wear due to my calves being too thick). Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI also "need" some new winter dresses, but don't know exactly what I want, other than easy to wear.
I loveeeee the pixie pants! I'm attempting to downsize a bit and not go crazy shopping over the next few months, but I would love a few new blazers. :)
